so, I've been scolded for letting by blogging go on the back burner, so I am going to give you a brief look into some of the funny stuff Riley has said this summer:
Funny Girl #1- on the way to first day of soccer, "Mom, I don't think I wanna play soccer because the net looks like spider webs. I think I wanna play baseball instead- there's no spiders in baseball..."
Funny Girl #2- tonight after coming out of her bedroom for the 4th or 5th time...."Mom, I can't go to sleep because my heart really hurts.....it hurts because it just wants to keep playing...."
Funny Girl #3- you may not know that I've got Riley convinced that we bought her and Karsyn at Walmart.....and you may not know that I kinda wanna have one more baby. So the other day, Riley informed me that she really wants us to go buy TWO little tiny babies....not one, but two......like Chanel.....(I don't know if that's funny or smart!) :) don't tell John......
Funny Girl #4/ FUNNIER mom- Riley- "mom....when am I gonna have a baby in my tummy?" Funny mom- "NEVER!!"
Is anyone else worried about Riley giving my a run for my money? I'm already tired just thinking about the next 15 years!!

Cinderella
So I think I need lessons on how to take Riley to something that takes longer than 5 minutes. We went to the high school musical of Cinderella with Cassie, Abby and Maddie. The girls wore their best princess gear. Riley was amazed for exactly 5 minutes, then she proceeded to whisper-yell to me that she "was really getting sick of this" and "would rather go sit in the car and eat cheetos!"
I had to force her to put her dress back on at the end of the play for pictures, and as you can see, she would not go near Cinderella, but had no angst about posing with the evil stepmother and stepsisters! hhhhmmmmmm.......

In the jungle....
Riley had her first visit to "the jungle" a few days ago. Believe it or not, "the jungle" is actually some genious' idea for a pediatric dentist!!

While she wouldn't actually sit or lay back in the chair, cautious little Riley actually DID open her mouth, and let the hygenist look at, poke and brush her teeth.

The report was awesome- no cavities! When we left, Riley proudly announced to me that she went to the dentist like a big girl, but that she didn't think she'd be going back......wonder where she gets that from?

....obviously Karsyn likes the dentist WAY more than we do!!

Cousins
Now that's what I'm talking about!! This is what I had hoped for when I couldn't wait to move back here from Des Moines. I wanted so badly for my kids to see more of their grandparents, aunts and uncles, and most of all- be close to their cousins!! We had a family February Birthday brunch, and the kiddos are all getting to be the perfect ages to have a blast together. There was some dancing in Riley's room, a little bit of jumping on the bed, some fighting over toys, Riley trapping Brecken in her room so she couldn't "escape", and best of all.....lots of laughs! Now that's what I'm talking about!!

Sleepy Monkeys
I love these days when we are in no rush to get up, get dressed, or hurry out the door. The girls will come in and snuggle with me in my bed for at least 5 seconds before they are ready to get up and get to work (messing up the house, that is). This morning in particular, they were in their soft, cozy monkey jamas, and looking as cute as ever!!

Rock Star
If you can't hear the music, just imagine a Led Zepplin-ish tune coming from the Learning Chair....

Naughty Kisses
When John got done reaming Riley tonight for giving me dirty looks, he made her apologize to me. I asked her what she did that she was sorry for. She replied, "I was throwing you naughty kisses....."
How cute is that?

Dailey
As I'm sure that most kids do, Riley has an imaginary friend. Her name is Dailey. The funny part about this is that Dailey is my good friend Tracy's last name. I have no idea where Riley picked this up as a name for her friend, but I die laughing every time she says it- which, by the way, is more and more lately.
So now, there are three Dailey/ Kline friendships going on here- I have been friends forever with Tracy- we played bball together at the University of New Mexico, and were roommates there for part of our stint in Albuquerque; John played football with and has been friends forever with Tracy's husband, Mike, at the University of Iowa (remember, John and I met at Mike and Tracy's wedding); and now, there is the Riley/"Dailey" connection. As I have recently informed Tracy, though, Dailey is the evil on in this friendship.
Riley has been talking about Dailey for some time now, letting me know that they visit each others' houses, sometimes they go to work together, and more and more lately, when Riley does something naughty, she blames Dailey. Yesterday, Riley decided to sneak a couple of tubes of lipstick from her babysitter's house and shove them into her underwear- I'm thinking she just wanted to borrow them, which she does pretty much every day, but this time, Dailey made her put them into her underwear and then lie about having them. I found all of this out tonigh at dinner, where Riley proceeded to tell me that she was glad that Dailey is now in trouble, because now they are going to go to Max and Ruby's house.........
If this makes little or no sense to you- GOOD......spend 5 minutes in my world!!

Full Circle
So, if you talk to me at all during the summer months, you know that we are
B-U-S-Y. Since Riley was 6 months old, I have had her in classes for this, and groups for that, meetings at the park, playing at the mall...all kinds of stuff. Part of it is because I have to be doing something at all times, but even more of it is to give her alot of different experiences and expose her to lots of different things and people.
Okay, you say, so get to the point.....
So at one time or another, I'm sure one of our phone conversations consisted of me trying to explain that I do not, I repeat, DO NOT pay $65 for the Park and Rec classes for Tiny Tots for myself to be doing gymnastics, or singing and dancing to nursery rhymes, or to be learning sign language (these are some of the classes Riley's been in.) Nevertheless, Riley participated almost NONE, but instead ran around the room crazily, not listening to a word that I said...."Riley, we are not doing that right now, you need to go over there and listen to your teacher...."; at the same time, I'm thinking about all the kids I work with daily who can't sit down, can't pay attention, can't focus, etc.- all the while getting closer and closer to buying stock in Ridalin. :-)
Anyway, so I bravely enrolled Riley in Moving and Music for Tiny Tots to hit up once a week during this winter, when there hasn't been much outside activity (since I haven't been on maternity leave for the first winter in a long time). I was a little nervous, because now I'm going to have to try to contain Karsyn AND convince Riley to participate and listen. The class starts, the teacher instructs the kids to get into a circle, and only one kid does it-----Riley!! She proceeds to belt out every word to every song, follow every direction, and even speak when her teacher asked her a question!! For the first time ever, I had other parents asking ME how old she was, because they were just dying for their toddler to turn that age, and start acting like THAT!! (just as I have been doing for the past three years)
Hopefully by now you're dying laughing, as am I, but I will wrap this up by quoting Oprah and saying, at this moment, for my entire life as a mother (all three years of it), everything has come "Full Circle".
